Tip Titans

Tip Titans is a sports investing platform. Punters subscribe to vetted sports analysts, the Titans, and receive their tips with a recommended stake and the bookmaker offering the best odds. Every tip is recorded on the blockchain so performance can be verified. Codium built the platform: the admin, the analyst and punter sides, the payments, and the app for iOS and Android.

The brief

A tipping marketplace where the record can be checked

Most tipping services ask you to take their results on faith. Tip Titans wanted a platform where an analyst's record is verifiable, a punter can follow one analyst or a team of them, and the business runs itself: tips in, subscribers billed, analysts paid their share. We built the whole thing. Analysts enter tips against real events with odds pulled from a data feed, the tips go out to subscribers and onto the blockchain, results come back when the event settles, and the admin sees subscribers, revenue, payouts and performance in one place.

Analysts and tips

Each Titan has a profile, the sports they cover and a tip feed. Tips carry the event, the selection, the bookmaker and odds, a stake in units and a status from pending through released to resulted.

Events and odds

Sports, competitions, teams, venues and bookmakers are managed centrally, with upcoming events loaded from an odds feed so a tip is always tied to a real fixture and current odds.

Verified performance

Every released tip is recorded on the blockchain, and the dashboard shows profit on turnover, return on investment and total picks per analyst from the same record.

Subscriptions and payouts

Punters subscribe to one analyst or several, with free trials and failed payment handling. Each month the platform works out what each Titan is owed and finalises the payments.

Punter dashboard and app

Subscribers build their team, set a bankroll and staking strategy, receive tips, and track their own results by entering the bets they actually placed. The same on the web and in the app.

Admin and reporting

Subscriber, revenue and tip volumes on the dashboard, unresulted tips and failed payments as actions, notifications and banners to subscribers, and downloadable reports on performance, invoices, churn and analyst movement.

Every tip is a record

A tip on Tip Titans is a structured thing: the event, the market and selection, the bookmaker and the odds at the time, and a stake in units. We built the flow so an analyst enters it once, it is released to their subscribers and written to the blockchain, and when the event settles the result and the return are recorded against it. That record is what the performance figures on the public site and in every punter's dashboard are calculated from, so nobody is taking anyone's word for it.

Real fixtures and live odds behind every tip

Tips across racing, AFL, NRL, NFL, NBA, tennis and more need a clean set of events to attach to. We integrated an odds data feed so upcoming fixtures load with their start times and bookmaker odds, and built the reference data behind them: sports, competitions and teams, venues, bookmakers and bet types. An analyst picks the event and the market, and the platform knows which bookmaker is offering the best price.

Punters

Build a team, set a bankroll, follow the tips

The punter side is built around a simple routine. Compare the analysts and their verified records, subscribe to one or build a team, set a bankroll and staking strategy with the risk tool, and then receive each tip with its stake and best odds. Punters can enter the bets they actually placed, at the odds they got, so the dashboard tracks their own results rather than a theoretical one. It all works the same on the web and in the iOS and Android app.

Running the business

Subscriptions in, analyst payouts out, reports for the rest

Punters pay in and Titans are paid out, and both had to be built. We built subscription billing for punters, with trials, cancellations and failed payments surfaced as actions on the admin dashboard, and a monthly payments run that works out each Titan's share from their subscribers and tips and finalises it. Reports on performance, tips, invoices, churn and analyst movement download for any date range, and notifications and banners go out to subscribers from the same admin.

The mobile app

The Tip Titans app gives subscribers their team, their tips and their dashboard on the phone, with a notification when a new tip is released.

Technology stack

How it's built

Tip Titans is a web platform with three sides on one API: the admin, the analyst portal for entering and releasing tips, and the punter portal that is also served to the iOS and Android app. It integrates an odds data feed for events and bookmaker prices, records released tips on the blockchain, and runs subscription billing, monthly analyst payouts, notifications and reporting.

Single page application

Built in Vue.js as a single page application, for a fast experience without page reloads and the flexibility to evolve as the system grows.

API-focused backend

The backend is built in Laravel and MySQL with an API-first interface, so the web and mobile apps share the same endpoints.

Continuous integration

Automated testing and deployment let us test new builds and update production quickly, so we can release as often as required.

Managed hosting

Amazon's Elastic Container Service runs each service in its own container within a cluster that scales up and down as needed.
