Hosting and Software Support Services
Because downtime costs are increasing, your technical support strategy is more important than ever.
-IBM Global Services
Once an application goes live, there may be technical issues arising from time to time that require resolution (e.g. the IT department makes changes that affect the performance of the application or a client changes a system integrating into the application). In addition, once an application has been in use for a while, clients often identify incremental improvements that can further improve operational effectiveness and efficiency. These improvements may be deemed too small a project to take on by most software companies as there are minimum project sizes software companies take on. The firm that developed the application will be most open to making these modifications and can do so most cost effectively.
A software support Service Level Agreement (SLA) usually accompanies each software application to precisely address such issues / changes. Codium’s SLAs enable a certain number of hours to be set aside in our capacity plan to support ongoing changes to your application as needed. This ensures guaranteed priority response times for support requests.
Cloud application hosting provides the secure platform on which your cloud application resides so you can access it from anywhere in the world where there is an internet connection. But internet is accessible to everyone, including disreputable people with obscure motives. This usually means that whenever there is a possibility of exploiting your system, it will be attempted. As a result, choice of hosting environment and choice of hosting service provider is critical.
While numerous hosting service providers exist, software development companies have the additional advantage that their technical capabilities will usually be a match for hackers and therefore they can both provide better prevention of your application being hacked and better recovery where a hacker does get through to your application.
From a prevention point of view, we only deploy to hosting environments with Secure File Transfer Protocols (SFTP) to ensure uploaded/downloaded can’t be intercepted and modified; and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to provide an encrypted path between the browser and web server to prevent information from being stolen.
We perform daily or hourly backups depending on the client’s preference to minimise data loss in case of a problem or disaster.
We perform daily or hourly backups depending on the client to minimise loss in case of a problem or disaster.
We undertake server maintenance with built in automatic alerts to keep on top of upgrades and patches and limit attacks.
We perform automated monitoring to detect any application or server changes or security breaches and alert our security team of issues via our team communication platform, email and sms so we can act on these in real time.
Through our partnership with Amazon and IBM, Codium hosts developed applications on the Amazon AWS cloud or the IBM Softlayer Cloud. While a range of hosting services exist, we only host on platforms that have been tested and complied with our security, scalability, support timeliness and low vulnerability to attack criteria.
